With so much to do, how does a busy GP keep herself sane?
By always making time to play!
THE CLARSACH SOCIETY
I took up playing the small/lever harp or clarsach in 2006 and was briefly the convenor of the East Midlands Clarsach Society.
The East Midlands Clarsach Society was an organisation dedicated to the enjoyment of the small, lever or folk harp. It was originally known as the Stamford and Rutland Branch. The name was changed in June 2008 when it was realised the membership now covered a much wider area than previously.
Despite its wide area, numbers dwindled and in 2010 the East Midlands Branch of the Clarsach Society folded itself back into its parent organisation, the national Clarsach Society.
The aim of the Clarsach Society is to encourage beginners and experienced players alike, to provide a forum for harpists to get together to play music and enjoy listening to others, to organise workshops and social events and generally to enjoy each others company.
COMMUNITY RADIO
I continue to promote the folk harp and have a regular 'harp slot' on the Hermitage Folk programme on HermitageFM, a community radio station (a branch of Carillon Broadcasting, a hospital radio station).
HermitageFM and Carillon have a track record in public service broadcasting, providing sound engineering and podcasts for AGMs and other events for Leicestershire County and Rutland PCT.
LOCAL HARP EVENTS
For local harp events, I need look no further than Derbyshire where Helen Naylor gives lessons, sells and repairs harps and runs the Derbyshire International Harp Festival.
